The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has posed tremendous challenges in almost every part of our daily lives. The global implementation of social distancing measures has brought a new normal in life, and new cybersecurity crisis has also followed.

Traditional teaching transforms to remote learning which poses a huge challenge to schools. Due to the lack of relevant IT specialists and the large amount of personal information possessed by schools, they will be vulnerable to cybercriminals. The ransomware attack worldwide during 2019-2020 has led to a massive data leakage of school staff, parents, and students, including their personal information and health record. This will result in reputation damage and bring financial loss to the schools. Schools have to consider to strength their cybersecurity and protect themselves from cyber-attacks.

With the resume of face-to-face lessons, it is also important for schools to embed best practice in health and safety in school and demonstrate that you have put the health of your colleagues and students first during the pandemic.

Sally Swingewood - Lead Standards Development Manager for business improvement and occupational health and safety management, BSI

Sally is responsible for working with both national and international experts to develop documents that help organizations of all types to improve the way they operate and to better protect the people who work for them.

Sally engages with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure the widest possible views are taken into account when the UK inputs to international standards and frequently holds public meetings to encourage users of the standards to raise issues and propose improvements. 

Sally is the manager of the ISO technical committee responsible for the world’s first international standard on occupational health and safety management, ISO 45001, and is actively involved in the development of ISO 45003 (guidance on psychological health and safety at work) and ISO/PAS 45005 (General guidelines for safe working during the COVID-19 pandemic).

Jesse Yiu, Enterprise Solution Manager, BSI

Jesse Yiu, the Enterprise Solutions Manager at BSI Hong Kong, has a demonstrated history of working in the Testing, Inspection and Certification industry.

He has worked with organizations across multiple industries to design practical solutions for driving organizational improvement, improving upon social impacts, and mitigating and remedying risks.

He also provides decent work on developing and delivering certification solutions for businesses across different sectors, including ISMS, QMS, EMS, OHSAS and among other challenging areas.

Mark S Steed, MA (Cantab.), MA, MSc, Principal and CEO, Kellett School

Mark has been the Principal and CEO of Kellett School, Hong Kong, since August 2019. He spent his career working in top UK independent schools as a teacher, head of department, and boarding housemaster prior to his three senior leadership roles as Headmaster of Kelly College in Devon (2001-08); as Principal of the Berkhamsted Schools Group (2008-15); and as the Director of JESS, Dubai (2015-19).

Mark has degrees from Cambridge and Nottingham Universities and an Executive Masters-in-Management with Ashridge-Hult Business School, during which he researched ‘Alternative Business models for Secondary Schooling’. He has a particular interest in how new technologies can be used in education and chaired the UK Independent Schools Council IT Strategy Group from 2007 to 2015.
