The latest version which is Version 6 - will have a 12-month transition window to allow organizations to prepare for the new Version and certification bodies for implementation and gaining accreditation. The first audits to Version 6 will commence from 01 April 2024 onwards, and all organizations must complete the V6 upgrade audit before 31 March 2025.

One of the challenges that the food industry faces is failures leading to product recalls, withdrawals and loss of production. Many of these issues relate to people and the food safety culture in which they operate - where organisations face challenges in developing and maintaining positive and sustainable food safety culture.  The recently published PAS 320 provides practical guidance and information on where to start, what to do, how to measure and sustain continuous improvement of an organization’s culture of food safety.

Elsabe Matthee, Technical Director, FSSC

Elsabe Matthee started out her career in the food industry, working mostly in the quality assurance and technical environments in the fresh fruit industry.  Over the past 15 years, she has worked for two large international certification bodies (CBs) and was responsible for third party Food and Agricultural certification across the majority of the GFSI schemes, as well as local schemes. A key part of the certification responsibility included scheme management, interaction with global partner offices, managing auditors, interaction with accreditation bodies (Abs) and scheme owners as well as maintaining the accreditation and the QMS for ISO17065 and ISO17021-1.  During this time, Elsabe was also a lead auditor for the major GFSI Schemes.  In 2020, Elsabe accepted the role as Technical Manager for FSSC 22000 and have since been promoted to Technical Director.  A key element of her current role is to maintain and develop the FSSC Schemes and Development Program as part of continuous improvement and to provide support to our CBs and ABs, as well as heading up the Foundations Integrity Program.  

Todd Redwood, Managing Director, Global Food and Retail, BSI Group

Todd has been helping food-related businesses deliver safe, sustainable and socially responsible food around the world for 30 years. Originally a chef and adult educator, Todd joined BSI Group in 2013 serving various general management roles in Australia, covering food & retail, supply chain and operations. 

As the Asia Pacific Director of Food based in Singapore, he was responsible for driving BSI’s food sector market entry and growth strategy as well as relationship and resource management across the region. Returning to Australia as the Global Food and Retail Supply Chain Operations and Compliance Director, Todd was responsible for leading all operations, compliance and governance aspects relating to the Food Sector assurance and training business of BSI. After a short period as the Director Food & Retail – APAC, he is now the Managing Director Global Food & Retail, responsible for engaging the industry and driving BSI’s portfolio of solutions to support global brands and retailers to achieve their sustainability, digital trust, health, safety & wellbeing and product quality and safety ambitions across the food and retail sector. 

Todd regularly presents internationally at industry events; and is an active member of various groups and committees including the Consumer Goods Forum, GFSI ANZ Local Group, GFSI Auditor Training and Professional Development working group, and Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology Auditor incubator and development program.

Leanne Singleton, Principal - Food Safety Specialist, Foodsure

Leanne is an independent food industry specialist with over 20 years of experience in food safety risk, compliance and operational solutions. Special interests and expertise include GFSI Food Safety Standards, the application of risk methodology to food safety hazards, novel foods and food waste prevention. Leanne has worked across all sectors of the food supply chain from primary production, commodity traders, food manufacturing and institutionalised foodservice. Leanne brings her enthusiasm and a pragmatic, collaborative approach to the delivery of technical food safety training.
